What's Happening in February
I wanted to give you some essential and hopefully exciting updates about things happening at Shalimar UMC in February. First off, thank you all for your support last week regarding the announcement of my new position as Communication Pastor. If you missed it, you could watch the video here. I hope to keep up apprised regarding new activities and what we're working on to keep moving forward in 2020.
"Night Out" Valentine's Dinner
I want to thank everyone for their support of us trying something new with Valentine's Day dinner. It was a fresh take on an older event. We didn't have enough RSVP's for me to be able to use our volunteers effectively, so we hope to do a similar event at a later date, maybe this summer. Don't take that with a heavy heart, though. When we try new things, it's an opportunity to learn and do something more effectively in the future.
Financial Peace University
Our two FPU classes that started a few weeks ago are going strong. It has been a few years since we have done this course here. I'm excited to report that over half of our class participants are not church attenders. Please be in prayer as the class continues. We just finished week 3 of 9.
New Church Council
We just had our first Church Council meeting of 2020. I'm so happy to serve along so many excellent laypersons. You can read what the council's priorities this year are here.
Philip is actively preparing for his 12 groups of 12 (or more) that will be starting on February 24. We are developing a leader's guide and participant's guide for these groups. I encourage you all to pray about being apart. Read more.
Lent starts on February 26. We'll be focusing on Heaven during those six weeks. It's a great time to think about inviting someone to join you for worship. Invite cards will be in your hands soon.
Now you're in the know of what's happening. We're working to grow your discipleship and reach outside our church walls. I can't wait to see you Sunday!
