Shalimar Emmaus Cluster

History
The first people to attend an Emmaus Walk from Shalimar UMC
were Bob O'Connor and Tom Goodwin on Walk #7 in 1987. Then they took what they
learned and shared it. Twenty years and a 181 walks later (as of April 1, 2007), the program's
success remains unequaled in its positive effect on the church.
What is Emmaus?
Emmaus is an international movement managed by the Upper Room, for the development
of Christian leaders. Attendance is open to people of all Christian denominations,
leaders or not. Locally, walks take place at the 325-acre Blue Lake Methodist Camp
near Andalusia, AL, which is the headquarters of the Alabama-West Florida Conference.
The Shalimar Emmaus Cluster is a part of the larger Blue Lake Emmaus Community.

The Shalimar Emmaus Cluster
meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm in room #106 in the the Family Life
Center. If you have been on an Emmaus Walk, Chrysalis, Cursillo, Tres Dias, or
Great Banquet, please join us as we fellowship and share the joy of God's love.
Would you like to attend?
If you have not been on an Emmaus Walk and would like to go, chances are there is a
person right next to you in church or Sunday School who has been to Emmaus and would
love to sponsor you.
Want to sponsor someone?
Prayerfully consider the person you are thinking of sponsoring and discern if they
are spiritually ready to attend a Walk. If you need help in this consideration process,
there is a wealth of experience available within the Shalimar Emmaus Cluster.
