Terms run from late August to late May. Disciple I is a prerequisite to Disciple II, Disciple III or Disciple IV.
Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study(DISCIPLE 1) This study gives equal time to the Old and New Testament and will take you from creation to the New Jerusalem. It is the foundation of the DISCIPLE Bible Study Program and should be taken as a prerequisite to any other DISCIPLE study. It requires reading large portions of scripture each week of the 34-week course. It will meet on Wednesdays, beginning August 29, 6-8:30pm and be led by Tom Goodwin.
Into the Word Into the World (DISCIPLE 2) This is a more in-depth study focusing on Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts that stresses the importance of keeping Bible study connected to your witness in the world. It is a 32-week course that also entails daily reading. It will be led by Terry Rowe on Wednesdays beginning August 29 from 6-8:30pm. It will also be offered on Monday nights with Ralph and Dianne Johnson from 6-8:30pm beginning October 8.
Remember Who You Are (Disciple 3)
is not being offered this year. REMEMBER
WHO YOU ARE is prepared for those who have completed BECOMING DISCIPLES
THROUGH BIBLE STUDY. Resident in the title is the driving idea in this
study--the connection between memory and identity as the people of God.
The word You in the title is meant to be heard both in its
singular form (the individual) and in its plural form (the community).
We are a community of memory. Participants in this thirty-two-week study
will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets, with the exception
of Daniel, and will read the thirteen letters traditionally attributed
to Paul. To establish the historical context in which the prophets spoke
for God, daily reading assignments also draw on the books of Deuteronomy
through Chronicles. Study of the prophets will follow their historical
sequence rather than their biblical sequence. The dating of Paul’s
letters influences the sequence of their study.
Under the Tree of Life (DISCIPLE 4) Not being offered this year. This study is a more in-depth look at the writings of the Old Testament and the New Testament books of John, James, Jude and Revelation. Studying the Psalms as Israel’s hymn and prayer book, leads naturally to an emphasis on worship. Present through the entire study is the sense of living towards the completion of the message and the promise as pictured in Revelation. This 32-weeks.
Jesus In The Gospels Not being offered this year invites believers to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask the question, "Who is the Jesus that you see?" This study will deepen discipleship through better understanding of the biblical texts and their message. Two questions frame this study: "Who is the Jesus you bring with you to this study?" and "Who is the Jesus you take with you from this study?" JESUS IN THE GOSPELS takes participants on a journey from one question to the other.
The Disciple study continues to be one of the most successful programs we've run in terms of the positive impact it has had on people's lives.
