Children (grades 2nd through 5th)
Children in grades 2nd through 5th are encouraged to join Miss Susan, our Children’s Director for WOW: Worship on Wednesdays! This class will meet from 6-7:30pm in the Computer Lab beginning on August 20 and feature bible stories, games and crafts.
Youth Bible Study (grades 6th through 12th )
Youth gather at 5:30pm Wednesdays for “hang time” to be with friends, do some homework or play games in the Youth Rooms and TRANSFORMED Bible Study then begins at 6:45-8pm. Youth Director’s Wayne Walker and Adam Mills will lead in praise and worship time followed by a message and small group time. “Fusion” fun and fellowship also happens from 6:30-8pm on Sunday evenings for the youth after a snack supper in the Family Life
DISCIPLE Bible Studies
These Bible studies seeks to transform the student rather than just inform. Each study meets for 2.5 hours for 32 weeks and covers some of the Old & New Testament. Reading assignments require another 2-4 hours each week and classes average about 12 people.
Disciple 1 Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study, covers about 70% of the Bible and provides the student with a good overview of the entire biblical story and what it means to be a Disciple of Christ. It’s the foundational study for all other Disciple series to follow. This class will be offered on Wednesday evenings beginning August 20, 5:45-8pm with Jennie and Pastor David Hoppenjan facilitating. There will also be a class offered on Thursday evenings beginning August 28 from 6-8:30pm.
Disciple II Into the Word, Into the World is an in-depth study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts, linking these scriptures to modern-day witness and service to the world. Jim Brantley will facilitate this class on Thursday evenings from 6-8:30pm beginning on September 4.
Disciple III Remember Who You Are sets the writings of the Old Testament prophets and the apostle Paul in their historical context. It focuses on their common themes of a call to turn life towards God, repentance and becoming a community of obedience. This study, lead by Terry Rowe, will also be offered on Wednesday evenings 6-8:30pm beginning August 20.
Disciple IV Under the Tree of Life focuses on some of the Old Testament including Psalms and Proverbs then covers the distinction of the Gospel of John along with James, Jude and Revelation. It emphasizes the ideas of being tested and refined. Dianne and Ralph Johnson will lead this class on Monday evenings beginning August 18 from 6-8:30pm.
Stephen Ministry
will begin training a new class of dedicated care-givers to come alongside those going through difficulties in their lives. This is a challenging but rewarding opportunity. WOMEN’S STUDIES
Walking By Faith, Lessons Learned in the Dark” by Jennifer Rothschild is a 7-week study that encourages you to persevere through hardship, give God control, receive God’s gifts and be guided by the Truth rather than feelings. Tammy Morgan will lead this Monday night study from 6-7pm beginning on September 8.
“Jesus the One and Only” by Beth Moore will be taught by Patti Walker and meet on Tuesdays beginning at 12:15pm on September 2. This 11-week interactive in-depth study leads on a journey through the lands where Jesus walked, taught, healed and finally lead to the cross.
Splash of Joy #1 Ladies Study Group will gather again on August 20 with Sara Michaelson leading a 6-week discussion of Tianne Moon’s in depth study of Philippians called “Enjoy”. From 9:30-11:30am anyone who has never been in a Bible study or the seasoned seeker can be challenged to take the next step in their spiritual journey.
Splash of Joy #2 Ladies Study Group will begin meeting again on Wednesdays at 9:30-11:30am on September 10 led by Lyn Peters. They will be studying “Beloved Disciple” by Beth Moore. This is an in-depth look at the life of John the apostle as he journeyed with Christ to His death and John’s life afterward in exile.
OTHER NEW STUDIES
Pastor’s Class, Wednesday night studies— Dr. Bryars will begin the Adam Hamilton study “Christianity and World Religions: Wrestling With Questions People Ask” on September 17 at 5:45pm. This 6-week study looks at the four major world religions and compares the beliefs of each with those of Christianity. It encourages us to Christians to build bridges with others so that we might grow in our faith, love our neighbor and share the gospel.
Couple In Christ will resume meeting on Sunday afternoons with a new topic called “Empowering Couples, Building on Your Strengths” for couples interested in building a more vital and satisfying relationship. Starting on September 7 through November 16, Pastor David & Jennie Hoppenjan will again facilitate this group study meeting from 4:30-6pm.
